An Unanxious Heart
An Unanxious Heart
Icebreaker:
Have you ever had to speak/present in public before? What was that experience like?
Read Aloud:
Have someone read Matthew 6:25-34 aloud to the group.
Food, Drink & Clothes (Matthew 6:25)
Jesus commands us not to be anxious about our life or our body. Why do you think He specifically mentions those two things?
Jesus says “life is more than food” and “the body is more than clothing.” What does He mean?
The Birds & Lillies (Matthew 6:26-32)
Jesus mentions birds and lilies. What’s His point with each of them?
What is the ultimate root of our anxiety (verse 30)?
How do we balance trusting God to provide, with responsibility and working hard?
Why is it so hard for us to trust God to provide?
The Kingdom (Matthew 6:33-34)
What does it mean to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”?
Why are we tempted to be anxious about tomorrow (and the future thereafter)?
Does following Jesus mean we will never go hungry or unclothed? Why or why not?
Application & Prayer Time:
What are some things in your life you are tempted to be anxious about?
What are some ways God has cared and provided for you in the past?
What does it look like to surrender your anxieties to God in faith?
How can you seek God’s kingdom and righteousness this week?
Break into smaller groups (2–3 people) for prayer:
What are you anxious about right now? Ask someone to pray for you.
Ask the Spirit to show you your next step of faithfulness in seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness this week.
